Susan Phillips Vaughen received her nursing education from the University of Pennsylvania, Daytona Beach Community College and Florida Southern College. She received her nurse-midwifery degree from the Institute of Midwifery Women and Health in Philadelphia Pennsylvania and was certified as a Certified Nurse-Midwife by the American College of Nurse-Midwives in 2002. She received her Masters of Science degree in Midwifery from Philadelphia University in 2003. Susan has dedicated her professional life to providing quality care for women in Central Florida. She believes in the midwifery model of care that taking time to listen to women forms the basis for quality care. She is passionate about midwifery care that focuses on the needs of the individual and family for physical care and emotional and social support and the active involvement of the significant others according to cultural values and personal preferences. For many years she has worked as a labor and delivery nurse in several local hospitals. She was an organizing member of Parenetcraft, a local organization dedicated to advocating for women and infants. She has been a Childbirth Educator and a breastfeeding consultant with La Leche League. Susan and her husband Dan have 3 grown children and very much enjoy their 5 grandchildren. They live in DeLand.
